Template Repeater is a Power BI custom visual that turns rows of structured data (an Excel process register, a policy inventory, an asset list) into designed, presentation-quality pages. Design the page once in a drag-and-drop editor; every record renders through it.
What it does
- A real page designer, in the visual. Sections with column layouts (1, 2, 3 columns, 1/3 + 2/3, fluid), cards with configurable accent bars, text, bulleted lists, pills, buttons, images and arrows. Snap-to-guide editing, undo and redo, and live preview against your actual records.
- One record, one page. A built-in record navigator leafs through rows like a document, and cross-filters the rest of your report page as you go, so companion visuals follow along.
- Data-driven everything. Text placeholders, colors, and links bind to columns. Conditional rules restyle, relabel, or hide elements based on categorical values.
- A living document, not a deck. Bracketed references like
[1.1.1]in your data become clickable cross-links between records. External links open governed by Power BI’s confirmation flow.
Why it exists
Public sector teams maintain process manuals, service catalogs, and practice documentation in PowerPoint, rebuilt by hand every time the source spreadsheet changes. Template Repeater inverts that: the spreadsheet stays the source of truth, and the designed document is always current, filterable, and connected to the rest of your reporting.
Built with government constraints first: the visual makes no external calls of any kind: templates, images, and data all live inside your report.
Try the beta
- Download the
.pbivizfile above. - In Power BI Desktop, open the Visualizations pane, click the three dots, and choose Import a visual from a file.
- Load the sample CSV (a small corporate service catalog) and drag its columns into the Fields well. You’ll see auto-generated cards immediately. Paste the example template under Format, then Template, for a designed service profile page with data-driven accent colors, status rules, and a link button, or switch on Design mode in the same card and build your own.
Beta builds are imported per report and don’t update themselves; check back for newer versions until the AppSource listing is live. Feedback goes to product support.
